Directed by Richard Glatzer & Wash Westmoreland
First of all, bring about 27 boxes of Kleenex to the theater.
Secondly, it’s a testament to the performance of Julianne Moore that you’ll be sobbing within eight minutes of the start of this film.
Thirdly (and most importantly), it’s a testament to the writing of the two directors and Lisa Genova that it NEVER feels like a Hallmark Channel movie. This is a crisp, reality-drenched, slice-of-life tale of a crippling disease and the way it affects a highly intelligent, yet otherwise unremarkable woman who has just turned fifty. Moore’s gonna win…everything…and it’s easily the best performance by a female actor I have seen this year. Not because of how well she can play the horrors of the illness, but by how well she plays the everyday humdrum moments of life under the influence of the illness…a subtle difference, but an all the more powerful one.
