2013 Chicago Int’l Film Festival Review: “Le Grand Cahier (The Notebook)” (Hungary)

Directed by Janos Szasz

This should be an Oscar nominee for foreign lanstill1jpg-16252-800-600guage film and deservedly so (alas, “La Juala De Oro” is not eligible). The film (based on the book) follows the lives of identical twin boys left by their parents with their hardened grandmother for safe-keeping during WWII. It’s an impressive examination in to the effects of a war-ravaged society on the psyche of two young children. Incredibly shot and impressively acted, it’ll be in a cinema near you soon. Go see it!
