2013 Chicago Int’l Film Festival Review: “Heli” (Mexico)

Directed by Amat Escalante

heli-featured“Heli” is a (brutal) slice of life examination of a rural work-a-day Mexican family and the effects of the drug trade and the war going on in the name of. While it comes up a little short of great, and contains one of the most explicit scenes of torture you’ll ever see in a feature (and you’ll recognize it immediately as such), it is a small film worth seeing.

Trailer here.
