2013 Chicago Int’l Film Festival Review: “La Jaula de Oro” (Guatemala)

Featured imageDirected by Diego Quemada-Díez

This superbly crafted and executed film is an unflinching epic about the journey of a handful of young Guatemalans trying to make their way in to the U.S. and a, supposedly, better life. This film is so good, so textured, and so subtle, I’m thinking it will stay in my head space for years to come. Write it down, now. Look for it in your weekly listings. Seek it out. It’s a modern “Grapes of Wrath”, and, yes, I’m aware of the enormity of that statement.
